Gian Jyoti Institute of Management and Technology (GJIMT) organized an awareness programme on “Navigating Truth Online: Fake News and Social Media Literacy” on 19 August 2026 through the Electoral Literacy Club. The programme aimed to create awareness among students about the growing concerns of fake news, misinformation, misleading content, and rumours circulating through social media platforms.
The session emphasized the importance of verifying information before believing or sharing it. Students were guided on identifying fake news through source verification, fact-checking, comparing information with reliable sources, checking dates and context, and being cautious of sensational headlines and misleading content.
The programme also highlighted the importance of responsible social media behaviour and encouraged students to develop critical thinking skills while consuming digital content. The key message “Not Everything Online Is True” encouraged participants to question doubtful information and verify facts before forwarding or posting any content.
The initiative successfully promoted awareness about digital responsibility, truth, critical thinking, and social media literacy, encouraging students to become responsible and informed digital citizens. The programme concluded with the message: “Stop. Think. Verify. Then Share.”
