GJIMT Conducts Virtual Session on Cyber Security Lab Setup and Awareness

23rd May 2025

Gian Jyoti Institute of Management and Technology (GJIMT) organized an engaging and insightful virtual session on Cyber Security Lab Setup and Awareness for BCA and MCA students on May 23, 2025. Held in the Conference Room, the session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students who were eager to deepen their understanding of cybersecurity principles, infrastructure, and real-world applications.

The session was led by Mr. Suprakash Guha, Chief Information Security Officer at Lumina Datamatics, Chennai, a seasoned expert in the field of information security. Mr. Guha began by guiding students through the essentials of setting up a cybersecurity lab, including the necessary hardware, software tools, and network protocols required for a functional and secure lab environment. He emphasized the importance of hands-on training in cybersecurity and how a well-structured lab setup can simulate real-world scenarios for effective learning.

A key highlight of the session was an in-depth case study on ransomware attacks—one of the most pressing threats in today’s digital landscape. Mr. Guha walked the students through the lifecycle of a ransomware attack, from infiltration to encryption and ransom demands, and discussed strategies for detection, response, and prevention. The case study enabled students to understand not only the technical aspects but also the broader implications of such cyber threats on businesses and individuals.

Throughout the session, students were encouraged to ask questions and engage in discussion, making the experience interactive and practical. The event served as a valuable platform for bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and industry expectations, equipping students with the awareness and confidence to navigate cybersecurity challenges in their future careers.
